Take control of your finances: 5 money saving tips!

One of the worst feelings is having out of control finances. Just a few years ago my husband and I nearly ate up all of our savings to sale our house in the crashed housing market. We had to move because of the military so there was no other option. We didn’t want to become landlords. With a few simple money savings tips {listed below} we got our savings built back plus some and you can too.

Take control of your finances! 5 money saving tips.

1. Shopping!  There are all kinds of stores that offer really cute budget friendly wears, accessories, shoes, etc. You don’t have to hit up the department stores every time you go out. Think outside the expensive and you might just find something you like.

2. Cleaning! Lets face it laundry detergent can get expensive and if you have more than just yourself that you wash clothes for you can go through a bottle in a hurry. One of the easiest ways to combat spending so much on cleaning supplies is to make your own homemade cleaning supplies.

3. Prioritize! Think about what you really need. Do you really need that new pair of super gorgeous really got to have them shoes? I know it’s hard but just back away. 😉 If you are trying to save some money start making a list of where you spend unnecessarily and you will find plenty of ways to save a few bucks.

4. Be Smart! Don’t go into a store without a plan of what you are going there to get, especially if you are trying to save money. If I go into a store without a list I’m coming out with 50 things that I didn’t even go there for. Happens every time! Make a list and stick to it.

5. Coupons! If you aren’t using them then you are missing out on a valuable money saving opportunity. I know it can take a bit to get use to and you don’t have to be an extreme coupon clipper. I’m definitely not of those, but make it a habit to check any store you plan to visit to find out if they have coupons available. Even if you are just doing the digital coupons you are still saving a great deal.

What are your best money saving tips?

I have found that meal planning, sticking to our list, and shopping the sales has saved a tremendous amount of money. I'm afraid to do coupons though because it would be to tempting to get something just because I have a coupon and that money does start to add up :)

Yeah that can be a problem. You could start with baby steps though and start just printing coupons or using digital coupons for only the items you know are on your list.

Coupons are the BEST. When I'm shopping online especially I never ever pay full price. I just Google till I find a coupon I can use!

I can't stand to pay retail especially when I know that they always have sales/coupons. If they don't this week they probably will next week.

These are great tips. For a long time we went around with no savings....so scary. We disciplined ourselves to get back on track. Pinned because I know others need these tips.

I'm trying to be really diligent when I go to the store to only shop off my list. Otherwise all kinds of strange things pop into my cart and I waste money.

Lists definitely help and sometimes it helps to go shopping by yourself. If I go with my daughter we definitely get extra snacks and goodies we could do without.
