In my 20’s a skin care routine outside of your basic face wash and moisturizer was almost nonexistent. Now in my mid thirties I realize that having an established skin care routine is important for keeping my skin looking great.

With that said I want a routine that is simple and easy to follow. If it becomes to complicated it is just asking for me to give it up. When Paula’s Choice asked if I wanted to try out one of their kits I was definitely game. Now a month later I have a new skin care routine that I absolutely love. Today I wanted to share with you a few easy steps with finding the perfect routine for you.

How to find your perfect

established skin care routine!

Step 1: Determine your skin type!

The first important step to creating an established skin care routine is determining what type of skin you have and what products suit that type of skin. If you have dry skin and buy products for oily skin the will ultimately be ineffective and quite possibly make the entire situation worse.

There are approximately 5 types of skin.

  • Normal
  • Dry
  • Oily
  • Combination
  • Sensitive

My skin is a cross between combination (more dry) and sensitive. I am fair complected and burn extremely easy. Because of this Paula’s Choice suggested the Calm Redness Relief Kit in normal to dry skin for me. It has been working out really well.

This specific kit comes with…

  • Cleanser: A cream formula that gently cleans and soothes.
  • Toner: It replenishes and soothes extra sensitive skin.
  • Exfoliant: Gently minimizes pore size and smooths skin.
  • Serum: Visibly improves extra sensitive skin.
  • Day Moisturizer + SPF: Moisturizes and protects reactive skin.
  • Night Moisturizer: Moisturizes and soothes extra sensitive skin.

So as you can see this Calm Redness Relief Kit is great for anyone with sensitive skin. The cleanser is water-soluble which is gentle but still removes the dirt, oil and makeup. This is the first step in my everyday established skin care routine. It allows me to get a clean face and a clean face allow for products to work better. Which is a must when you have dry skin because dry skin and foundation can be a nightmare.

The second step is the exfoliant. This calm redness relief exfoliant is a leave-on which before now I had never even heard of a leave-on exfoliant. Top that with day moisturizer or night depending on which time of day you are applying. This is my basic everyday essential routine. The more advanced routine also involves adding in the toner and treatment products like the serum and my under eye treatment.

For my under-eye Paula’s Choice recommended the Resist Anti-Aging Eye Cream.

This formula is thick and rich that targets exactly when I want it to target around my eyes, wrinkles. It helps retain the moisture and boosts suppleness. This product is great for all skin types so I definitely recommend it. It is packed with age-fighting antioxidants.

Step 2: Don’t touch your face!

This is hard, I know. But, it truly is important to try and keep from touching your face so often. We transfer so much from our hands to our faces just by touching them. This leads to oil, dirt and bacteria being transferred. All of this muck causes clogged pores and in return not so nice pimples.

Step 3: Don’t pop pimples!

Speaking of not so nice pimples, never pick, squeeze or pop them. It almost always makes it worse. Picking and popping can cause pimples to become irritated and red. Plus you can even create a scar, which you don’t want to do.

Step 4: Stick to it!

This has always been my biggest problem, sticking to a routine. Your skin will react to something new in the beginning and sometimes not for the better. It can be easy to want to give up all the work but keep pushing through. Eventually your skin will become use to the new frequency and products and will be thanking you. Plus you will be thanking it for making your face look so lovely.

Step 5: Change what doesn’t work!

As I mentioned in step 4, you need to give your skin time to get used to a new routine and new product. However, if within a month your skin isn’t improving it is time to adjust products. Sometimes when starting out we don’t always get it right. It is okay to switch and find something better. Paula’s Choice has a wide range of skin care kits and beauty products to get you started.
