Peppermint is a hot oil. Which means it can cause a hot or burning sensation to your skin. These oils are best mixed with a carrier oil and applied to the skin. The peppermint oil smells just like its name, like peppermint. It has a strong, fresh minty smell.

Peppermint is one of the oldest and most used herbs for soothing digestion. Which is why it is highly regarded as a digestive stimulant. However, it is used for so many more great things. Continue reading below to find out all the ways you can use it too.

Uses of Peppermint Essential Oil:

  • Rub a drop of peppermint into the temples and over your sinuses to relieve tension headaches and sinus pressure. WARNING: As this is a hot oil be extremely careful around your eyes. If you do get this oil into your eyes rinse with milk. We all know oil and water do not mix, you need a substance that is safe to use in your eyes, quickly flush the eye with milk until it stops burning.
  • Regulate your digestive system by adding a drop of peppermint oil into your tea, water, etc daily.
  • Massage peppermint oil into your abdomen or wrists for motion sickness and minor stomach discomfort.
  • Need to stay awake and alert? Place 2 drops of peppermint essential oil on your tongue. You can also rub a drop under your nose.
  • Are you a snacker? Peppermint oil can help curb your snacking tendencies. Diffuse your peppermint to kick the snacking habit.
  • Because peppermint oil has a great deal of menthol it is very effective as a painkiller and muscle relaxant. It can help sooth a backache, sore muscles and more.
  • Peppermint acts as an expectorant and can provide relief for colds and sinusitis.

  • Battling a bothersome itch? Apply some peppermint oil mixed with lavender oil to cool and soothe your itch.
  • Mix peppermint oil with coconut oil (or other carrier oil) and rub it on your neck and the bottom of your feet to help reduce a fever. This works great for children as well.
  • Peppermint oil is a natural bug repellent. Ticks, ants, spiders, cockroaches, mosquito's, mice, and even lice will be repelled by peppermint.
  • You can mix peppermint oil with coconut oil and apply it to sunburns for relief of pain and support healthy skin renewal.
  • Of course we all know this one, peppermint can be used to naturally freshen breath. Add a drop under your tongue followed with glass of water to freshen breath.
  • Peppermint oil is great to relieve the pain associated with teething in infants. Mix peppermint oil with coconut oil and rub on the gum area.

 

WARNING: As this is a hot oil be extremely careful around your eyes. If you experience pain on other parts of your body apply a carrier oil (IE. Coconut Oil) to the skin to calm the burning.
