These easy and inexpensive simmering potpourri recipes will have your house smelling heavenly with the delicious scents of whatever season you are craving.


One of my favorite things about fall and winter is to have a pot of simmering potpourri using fruits and spices that smell delicious.

The smell of the holidays wafting through is just the best. Nothing fills the home with a festive scent quite like these simmering potpourri recipes.

Bring those holiday smells to your house or package them up as gift-giving to family and friends with just these few simple ingredients. A fun activity that you can get the whole family involved in.

How to make DIY simmering potpourri recipes



For all of these simmering pot recipes, you will add all of the listed ingredients into a small saucepan and stir.


Bring to a boil and reduce the heat to low. As the liquid evaporates continue to add more liquid, whether that be cider or water.

How long does simmering potpourri last?



You can reuse the recipe mix for approximately a week or so. Store in the fridge after each use.

What can I simmer to make my house smell good?



I love these simmering potpourri recipes because I can make my house smell amazing without blowing through an expensive candle every week.


Don't get me wrong, I still love my candles but I could burn through a whole one in a single day.

The crisp scent of fall is in the air but you can also have it in your home with these simmering recipes listed below.

FALL SIMMERING POTPOURRI RECIPES

These simmering potpourri recipes will have your house smelling heavenly with the delicious scents of whatever season you are craving.
These fall recipes are so wonderfully scented!



Of course, the first one is pumpkin spice. You can't do fall without that iconic scent, right?

PUMPKIN SPICE POTPOURRI

Ingredients for Simmering Holiday Potpourri

  • 2 cups apple cider (apple juice will work too)
  • ½ cup canned pumpkin
  • 3 or 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • ½ an apple (enjoy the second half for a snack.. ha)

Speaking of apples... The next scent is apple pie. Yum! You don't have to go through the long process of baking an apple pie to enjoy that aroma of fresh-baked goodness.

APPLE PIE POTPOURRI

  • 1 sliced small apple
  • 2 cups apple cider (apple juice or water will also work)
  • 1 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 3 or 4 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 tablespoon nutmeg

WINTER SIMMERING POTPOURRI RECIPES

These next two recipes make a yummy and cheerful-smelling pot that's sure to get you in the mood for the Christmas holiday!

CHRISTMAS SIMMERING POTPOURRI #1

  • ½ of an orange sliced
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ cup of fresh cranberries
  • 1 teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg

CHRISTMAS POTPOURRI #2

  • 3 sprigs of evergreen
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 tablespoon whole cloves
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 2 pieces of orange rind
  • 2 pieces of lemon rind
