How to replace vertical blinds with curtains!

If you are looking for the best solution or hack on how to replace vertical blinds with curtains because you either don't want to hang new hardware or need a solution for vertical blinds in your rental then look no further.

Vertical blinds have been a popular window treatment option for years, but if you're looking to update your space and add a touch of elegance and softness, curtains are an excellent alternative.

Curtains can completely transform the look and feel of a room, offering both functionality and style.

In this blog post, we'll guide you through the process of replacing vertical blinds with curtains, helping you achieve a fresh, personalized look for your windows (or in this case, doors).

These easy steps (with pictures) allow you to easily get this setup going in your home too. You will learn how to replace vertical blinds in no time!

The last time we moved I showed you how we dealt with ugly wire shelving in a rental and I am back today to show you yet another rental problem and a smart solution to fix it.

This one I may hate worse than ugly wire shelving and that is vertical blinds.

How to replace vertical blinds with curtains!

Do you have this problem in your home or rental?

We use to have vertical blinds in a house we owned and just removing them was the solution to the problem but having them in a rental is a whole different ballgame.

When I started thinking about how I wanted to go about getting rid of these vertical blinds I knew I wanted to replace them with curtains.

However, I also knew I did not want to take down the mechanical components of the blinds nor did I want to drill holes in the walls that I would have to patch in a couple of years.

Can you replace blinds with curtains?

Yes!! Then what is the solution?

Well, first I took down all of the vertical blinds, wrapped them up, and stored them in the basement.

Eventually, when it comes time to once again move I can just snap them right back in place.

Now, depending on where you live, you could easily call it done and just have no covering over your window or back door.

Although we do have trees behind us there is a house on the other side and in the winter with no leaves on the trees, I figured we would want some kind of covering over the back door.

Plus the morning sun shines through like crazy.

That is when I found these little s hook clips.

Yes, they are tiny but strong and can easily hold thicker curtains. Don't think you have to use just sheers.

They make bigger hooked style clips but I like these small ones because they stay more or less, hidden.

Using these S clips made this DIY makeover quick and easy!

The existing vertical blinds slider has little hole slots that I was able to slip the s hooks right into and clip up the curtains with no problem.

I actually think I like this simple and easy solution to having back patio door curtains rather than having a regular curtain rod.

The slider for the vertical blinds allows me to have the curtains pushed open and out of the way when I need them to be or slide them fully closed if we choose to.

This is sometimes a problem with a regular curtain rod as often a middle bracket keeps curtains from fully sliding all the way to the opposite side.

I am in love with this simple vertical blind conversion.

That is all there is to vertical blinds replacement.

I already had the curtains from our previous home so this brilliant alternative fix was rather inexpensive but I know a change that I will enjoy much more than dealing with vertical blinds.

I hope this helps one of you as well. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments below and I will try to get back to you as soon as possible.

I've been wondering whether this would work for a while coz I have some of those hook clips elsewhere on other curtains. Finally got round to googling it and you've already tried it. Do the hooks slip off the rail at all? I was wondering whether I might have to bend the hooks so they hold tighter?

I didn't have an issue with them slipping off, however, they were slid through little holes in the clips for the slider. These are small hooks, not the larger ones. I suppose it would depend on how yours is made on whether it would be an issue.

Where can I find curtains. Is there a place on
    N line to order them.

Anywhere that you would buy curtains... Amazon, Walmart, Kohl's, Target, etc. The ones shown in this post were from Ikea.

Interesting solution, thanks! Did you remove the cord that controls the swiveling / tilt mechanism, or do you just leave it in place and tell the tenants not to use it (or assume they'll figure that out)?

Our vertical blind has a pole that controls the swiveling and no I didn't remove it. We use it to push the curtains out of the way when needed. We are the tenants, if I was the owner I would remove the whole setup and leave a rod for the tenants to use curtains if they wanted.

Thank you so much! I never thought of using those little s hooks! I tried so many other techniques to keep the rod, but hang curtains. Great hack.

    Brilliant!!!!

We hate vertical blinds, your s-hook idea has transformed the 70’s office look into a cool film studio feel.

Just wish I had come across your website earlier. Great ideas!

My curtains will not slide across after removing the vertical blinds. Any suggestions?

Beth, without seeing how you hooked them on it is hard to determine. I could try to help you troubleshoot if you want to send me a picture via email or you can send me a story through Instagram. My IG is todayscreativeideas

Love this! I'll install a slightly larger inexpensive cornice to hide the hardware a bit, I think. Nice!

Thank you for the great idea! Installing a curtain rod in our rental was not something I wanted to go through a second time. I look forward to giving it a try!
