This time of year my favorite and go to drink is hot chocolate. One of the best hot chocolates I have tried has been Starbucks. Which is surprising because I don't go to Starbucks. One, because I don't drink coffee and two because I don't like paying that much money for something I can have for oh so much cheaper. So of course I do what every good DIYer would do and make my own homemade hot chocolate, which just so happens to taste very similar to the big box brand itself.
Homemade Hot Chocolate
Ingredients
- 2 TBS Cocoa Powder
- 2 TBS Sugar
- ¼ Cup Water
- 1 ½ Cups Milk
- ¼ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Instructions
- Mix together your simple syrup! Combine your cocoa, sugar, and water and heat (in the microwave or on the stove) until hot. I just heat it in the microwave (approx 45 secs), it is the quickest and less messing up dishes way.
- Once your syrup is heated through pour in your milk and heat again. I heat this step for approximately 1:30 - 2:00 minutes.
- Stir in vanilla extract and enjoy! This is enough for a large cup or 2 smaller cups.

Isn't it funny how *easy* hot chocolate is to make? I mix it up with non-dairy creamer when our goats aren't producing, and all I do is stir in boiling water.
Try adding a candy cane if you have any leftover! 😀

Yes, the candy cane would definitely give it a nice extra oomph. Love peppermint! 🙂
