Join us as we dive into this comforting creation that promises to warm up your nights.

Lasagna Soup Ingredients

Gathering the right ingredients is crucial for crafting this Lasagna Soup, a dish celebrated for rich flavors and comforting warmth.

This recipe calls for a harmonious blend of meats, cheeses, herbs, and more.

  • Italian Sausage: Adds a rich and savory flavor to the soup. Italian sausage typically contains a blend of spices that enhance the overall taste.
  • Diced Tomatoes: Provides the tomato base for the soup. The diced tomatoes add texture and contribute to the overall richness of the soup.
  • Pasta Sauce: Enhances the tomato flavor and brings a saucy consistency to the soup. It often contains additional herbs and spices for added flavor.
  • Garlic: Adds a pungent and aromatic element to the soup. Garlic is a common ingredient in Italian cuisine and complements the other flavors in the dish.
  • Italian Seasoning Blend: A blend of herbs such as oregano, basil, thyme, and rosemary that imparts the classic Italian flavor profile to the soup.
  • Beef Broth: Provides a hearty base and complements the meaty flavors of the sausage. It also contributes to the overall liquid content of the soup.
  • Lasagna Noodles: Mimics the pasta layers in traditional lasagna. The broken noodles make it easier to eat and give the soup its lasagna-like quality.
  • Ricotta Cheese: Adds a creamy and cheesy texture to the soup, reminiscent of the ricotta layer in traditional lasagna.
  • Parmesan Cheese: Enhances the overall cheesy flavor of the soup. Parmesan has a rich and nutty taste that complements the other cheeses.
  • Fresh Basil: Adds a burst of fresh herb flavor, enhancing the overall taste and providing a finishing touch to the soup.

How to make easy Lasagna Soup!

Cook the Italian sausage over medium heat in a Dutch oven.

Stir in the diced tomatoes, pasta sauce, Italian seasoning, minced garlic, and broth.

Bring the soup to a boil, break the noodles, and add them to the pot.

Continue cooking on medium-low heat until the noodles are tender. (about 15 minutes)

Combine the ricotta and parmesan cheese in a small bowl.

Chop the parsley.

Serve the soup with a dollop of cheese mixture and a sprinkle of fresh parsley. (You can use a cookie or ice cream scoop to make the dollop of cheese look prettier.)

Italian bread or cheese garlic bread is perfect to serve alongside this soup for a complete hearty meal.

Variations and Make-Ahead Tips

Lasagna Soup can accommodate every palate in the family. For those seeking a meat-free option, swapping ground beef with plant-based alternatives proved delightful.

Similarly, lovers of a spicier kick can substitute spicy Italian sausage for the mild variety.

Incorporating whole wheat lasagna noodles introduces a healthier twist, maintaining the soup's comfort essence.

One can't overlook the convenience of making this soup ahead of time. We discovered that allowing the flavors to meld overnight transformed our next day's meal into a deeper, more harmonious experience.
