It doesn't have to be left up to the school to teach our kids how important it is to take care of our beautiful planet, not only for them but for future generations.

Earth Day is a day to inspire awareness and appreciation for protecting the health of our environment and I truly think it is a great idea to get your kids to understand the importance of that early on.

I have rounded up a collection of activities, crafts, and printables to get you started on celebrating, observing, and learning about Earth Day and Arbour Day, whether that be done at home or in the classroom.

So many fun ways to teach kids and the entire family about recycling and taking care of our planet through creative art ideas, printables, sensory play, and more.

What are some ideas for Earth Day?

They may be fun and cute crafts but offer lots of opportunities to talk about Earth's characteristics, resources, and conservation.

It will make learning about this day even more fun and special.

A perfect way to start crafting for Earth Day is by taking a great opportunity to use recycled craft supplies. Here are some creative ideas to get you started.

  • plastic bottle
  • egg cartons
  • old magazines

  • coffee filters

This Tissue Paper Earth Day Craft by Happy Hooligans is perfect for toddlers, preschoolers, and younger children. It’s a great activity to accompany a discussion about the importance of caring for our planet.

I know you have some crayons that are short, stubby, paper gone, or in shreds. Perfect crayons don’t last long for coloring. Make and Takes has a solution for all of those leftover and unwanted stubby crayons – Recycled Chunky Crayons!

These sweet planet mosaic Earth suncatchers by Crafts on Sea remind me of stained glass and they are really easy to make. As an added bonus they’re also perfect for encouraging fine motor skills too.

As they take the balloon and stamp it onto the card stock paper the colors start to swirl together to make fun little Earth Art by I Heart Arts and Crafts.

Here’s a cute Earth Day craft and fun handprint art for your kids to make by Crafting Morning! It’s their handprints holding the Earth in a heart shape. Teach them that they hold the power to keep Earth clean and healthy!

Earth Day was started for everyone to show appreciation for our planet and the environment. Having a few fun, Earth Day crafts for preschoolers and all kids for that matter can enjoy is another way to keep the communication going on the importance of our planet. These little Earth Day Salt Dough Necklaces by Natural Beach Living are so cute.

It is fun to make this Earth Day slime by Little Bins for Little Hands!  A slime that looks like the earth is sure to be loads of fun for the kids and a fun sensory activity.

When teaching students about the structure of the Earth, this 3D layers of the Earth project by The Chaos and the Clutter really helps bring it to life. Using a hands-on activity like this helps kids be able to, in a simple way, conceptualize what they’re learning and be able to retain it.

If you're planting in Springtime or around Earth Day like us, you can plant these cute little seed bombs by How We Play and Learn straight away, ready for beautiful flowers all summer long. They also keep for quite a long time, so you can make them in advance and plant when the risk of frost has passed, or give them as a lovely eco gift.
