Lemon Pepper Wings in a yellow and stainless steel bowl

You can’t eat just one of these lemon pepper wings because they are addictive, even more so than how your favorite restaurant makes them.

They are also so easy to make and because of the air fryer, you get that same crisp on the outside and juicy on the inside without the mess of a deep fryer.

They make a healthy alternative to fried wings that are perfect for having on the big game day, for parties, or just whenever the wing mood hits you.

Your guests will go crazy for them.

What is Lemon Pepper Wings?

Of course, when wings are typically mentioned we usually think of buffalo or bbq style wings and while those are classic flavors we all love, the lemon pepper seasoning just takes these wings to the next level.

The butter adds that touch of rich flavor that all mixed together just makes it so yum.

What is lemon pepper seasoning made of?

It’s a common American seasoning blend made with dehydrated lemon zest, black pepper, salt, garlic powder, and onion powder.

You could easily make a homemade batch of lemon pepper seasoning by adding together

1/2 cup dried lemon peel
2 1/2 tbsp black pepper
1 tbsp onion powder
1 tbsp salt
2 tsp garlic powder

How do you make a lemon pepper sauce?

The lemon pepper “sauce” is just a mixture of this seasoning (store-bought for me) and melted butter to provide that maximum flavor to your wings. Be sure to use unsalted butter otherwise skip adding the salt to the homemade version.

Ingredients you will need:

  • 2lbs chicken wings
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 Tablespoon lemon pepper seasoning
  • Oil, as required by air fryer
  • 2 Tablespoons butter

How do you make lemon pepper wings?

In a small bowl, combine the flour and a half tablespoon of lemon pepper seasoning.

Place the chicken wings in a large bowl and drizzle on 1-2 Tablespoons oil.

Toss the chicken wings to coat with the oil, then dredge each chicken wing in the flour mixture.

Place each breaded chicken wing in the basket of your air fryer.

Set the temperature of the air fryer to 400F. Add additional oil as required by your air fryer.

Each air fryer is different, but ours took 30 minutes to cook the chicken wings to an internal temperature of 165F.

Turn the chicken wings halfway through the cooking time.

Once the wings are fully cooked, melt the butter in a microwave-safe bowl and stir in the remaining lemon pepper seasoning.

Toss each chicken wing in the lemon butter mixture and serve.

You can refrigerate leftover wings in an airtight storage container. They are good for the next day otherwise I would toss them.

To reheat, preheat your oven to 350 degrees F and let them warm until heated, takes about 5 to 7 minutes.

You can also freeze these wings in an airtight freezer-safe container for up to 3 months. When you are ready to enjoy them just let them thaw overnight in the refrigerator and reheat as directions above.
